durat

soooo...the day i buy a house and dont rent. these mother fuckers are gonna hook it up. So, you read Dwell magazine or whatever and they have these shower basins and bath tubs that are beautiful…but like $15k…yikes. Just not trying to spend that kind of money you know? So I’ve been researching this company in Finland called Durat® that does all this polyester-based custom formed stuff. Real fresh stuff…that rectangle tub they have is nuts though. Absolutely beautiful. Check it out… I honestly have no idea how much the stuff costs yet, but I’m sure it’ll be disappointingly expensive. http://www.durat.com/

New Gear
ok this is my really dorky side. for the film heads out there that do production, here is some new gear thats just dropped.
- the camera house has a new digital field recorder. its tape free system that centers on the DFR. it gives us images closer to traditional film and makes the workflow faster and more cost effective.recorded onto a hard drive. www.thecamerahouse.com
-
new arri d-20. suppousedly arri hasnt made enough. but digitals gay anyway. www.cameraservice.com
-the hydroscope from chapman. first waterproof telescoping crane arm. holds up to 200 lbs and is super quite...chapman also has a new pee-wee dolly (pictured) which is off the chain suppousedly
-the ringlight, just like the kino-flo camino light...no heat is emmited from the light, so you can get super close and it doesnt get uncomfortable for the cocky actors. rental from www.fvesco.com
-new 18k from arri, called the arrimax 18/12 (18,000 watt par) its like a fresnels variable beam spread but the output of a PAR. it has some reflector thing , so there is no need for spread lenses. pretty fucking sweet. no more burnt hands trying to put in a wide lense anymore.

Romenkian

More than any other person right now, mark romanek inspires me. i never feel the need to say shit like this, but this dude is amazing. I have no idea why he hasnt directed a feature yet. ive watched the directors label DVD of him a few times. from his johnny cash video, to his NIN video, to jay-z "99 problems". he knows what hes doing, and his outlook on it all is unreal. go find some stuff by him, rent it or buy it.
got it got cheap.

I’m not even trying to get into like a political / energy resource crisis post. I just have been looking at the more entrepreneurial side of the ‘energy crisis’ as of late. I’m thinking that next boom similar to the dot-com era thing will be small energy start-ups that have both really dumb and really innovative ideas to completely circumvent our traditional ways for getting it. And watch out for companies like VW, Scion, and maybe even Honda to start sponsoring these little companies. It’s really like ‘virgin-territory’ for the entrepreneurial world. Something to think about. So whatever…I want to spot light this company called Sky WindPower Corp. They have the idea of placing huge tethered flying windmills in the jet-stream….35,000 feet up. Kind of an ‘out there’ idea. But their proposal would suggest it’s limitless energy at less than 2 cents a KWh.

VW x Google earth!

this really is a good idea. They say the electronics research lab guys from VW have been hanging with the Google Earth team to try and figure out a way to use the whole Google Earth application as an in-car/in-dash 3D navigation system in upcoming VW models. Honestly, that’s a good idea. The link below is to a little story on Engadget about it, doesn’t say too much, but you know these two companies working together is only a good thing. While I can’t say Google is most esthetically focused company, they do have almost perfect execution of their ideas, and VW is really, really doing their thing with interfaces in their cars. http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/04/vw-nav-prototype-incorporates-google-sat-imagery/
Custom Earphones

These things look a little weird to me, like the actual shape. Seriously though. who is gonna drop $800 on a pair of headphones? Here is the basic run-down: You got to your local audiologist to get impressions made of your ear canals (which I heard is a weird experience), these molds are sent to Ultimate Ears, they then hand-craft a pair of head-phones that are perfectly specific to each of your ears.....http://www.ultimateears.com/custom/item__view_item__prod-959.html

this dude david burke (owns davidburke & donatella, a resturant in nyc that makes some wacky stuff) has come up with some kind of flavor spray that mimics the taste of high calorie foods but has no fat , calories or carbs. has like 18 flavors. ha..from memphis BBQ to pesto to chocolate fudge....say you made some eggs, just spray a shot of the bacon flavor on top, and your set. like 6 bucks a bottle at
perfect brew

nothing kills it like big head or shitty bartenders and or slow bartenders. but this might help. this thing keeps it all togther. stainless steel tap that attaches to a tap changes the flow of the beer so it hit the bottom , which in turn eliminates the reason to tilt the glass. a business can lease one for 99 bucks a year keg cooler version is like 200 and a kegorator version is like 175. http://www.turbotap.com
